KDP Builder
PaidNonfiction / general AI
A credit-based web studio that uses AI to draft a book's manuscript, interior, cover and listing text, then exports files for KDP and other printers.
What it does
KDP Builder runs in a web browser. Its homepage describes a guided workflow: AI drafts each chapter, which you edit, approve and lock; it builds a print-ready interior and cover; and it drafts a blurb, description, keywords and categories for you to check. The download is one ZIP with the cover, interior PDF, listing text and an upload checklist, for Amazon KDP, IngramSpark, Lulu or your own store. It lists guided workflows for nonfiction, novels, children's books, puzzle books, coloring books, planners and journals, cookbooks and more, each with a credit estimate.
KDP Builder says it is not affiliated with Amazon Kindle Direct Publishing.
Credits and plans (as of 2026-10-17)
- Free start: 75 welcome credits once you confirm your email address, with no card needed. KDP Builder says these "expire after 14 days" and that "Trial exports are watermarked"; clean exports need a credit-pack or subscription purchase.
- Credit estimates it lists per book type: for example 75–225 credits for nonfiction, 125–450 for fiction, 250–350 for children's books and 75–300 for planners and journals.
- Paid plans: monthly credit plans (Starter 250, Creator 700 and Studio 1,500 credits a month, plus a 4,000-credit tier) and one-time credit packs. The pricing page says unused plan credits and pack credits never expire, credits are refunded on failed generations, and you can cancel anytime.
- Dollar prices: we don't quote its dollar prices here; check KDP Builder's pricing page before you buy.
- Free formatting: it says you can upload a DOCX, PDF or page images and export a KDP-ready interior PDF of "Up to 120 pages free".
Check first
- KDP's AI disclosure rule: KDP's content guidelines say: "We require you to inform us of AI-generated content (text, images, or translations) when you publish a new book or make edits to and republish an existing book through KDP." KDP counts content as AI-generated "even if you applied substantial edits afterwards". KDP Builder says each export includes an AI disclosure reminder.
- Other stores have their own rules: for example, Draft2Digital says it does not accept content "generated entirely by AI/LLMs that has not gone through extensive editing from a human".
- You stay responsible: KDP says you are responsible for making sure AI-generated and AI-assisted content follows its content guidelines, including intellectual property rights.
- Books can be rejected or removed: KDP's content guidelines say: "We’ll reject or remove content that does not adhere to these guidelines". They also say: "We also do not allow content that’s typically disappointing to customers".
- We haven't tested the quality of its output. Its homepage shows quality scores from its own internal rubric; we don't repeat them.
Who it suits
- Good fit: publishers of planners, journals, puzzle books or short nonfiction who want drafting, layout and cover files in one place and are ready to edit and disclose AI content.
- Poorer fit: authors who want to write every word themselves. For formatting a finished manuscript only, see Atticus vs Reedsy Studio.
