Draft2Digital
PaidFormatting / ebook production
A self-publishing service that formats your manuscript and distributes ebooks and print books to many online stores and libraries.
How we wrote this: we drafted this page with AI assistance from the vendors' official pages, fetched on 2026-10-17, then checked each fact against those pages. We did not buy or test these tools hands-on. Prices and plans are as of Oct 2026 and change; check the official site before you buy. Listings are editorial. We are not affiliated with or endorsed by any tool named here. Amazon, Kindle and KDP are trademarks of Amazon.com, Inc. or its affiliates; we are not affiliated with or endorsed by Amazon.
What it does
Draft2Digital (D2D) converts your manuscript with layout templates, then distributes the ebook to the retail and library stores you pick. Each store is opt-in. Its D2D Print service publishes paperbacks. It also shows sales reports, and offers payment splitting and account sharing for co-authors.
Fees (as of 2026-10-17, USD)
- Trying it: signing up needs a name and email. D2D says you can use the formatting tools and download your ebook's EPUB before you pay anything.
- To publish: its FAQ lists "a non-refundable, one-time activation fee of $20 (USD) for new accounts" and "an annual maintenance fee of $12 (USD) for accounts that earn less than one-hundred dollars a year in book sales". Accounts with no titles in distribution don't pay the maintenance fee, and D2D's homepage says the annual maintenance fee is "waived your first year".
- Commission: D2D says it earns revenue mainly through a commission that "equates to approximately 10% of the retail price of every book sale". Store-by-store figures are on its royalty pages.
- Payment fees: PayPal payouts carry a fee of 2.5% of royalties paid, capped at $1.50 for US-based authors; check payments carry a flat fee.
ISBNs, print and AI policy
- ISBN: D2D assigns a free ISBN to books published through it, but its FAQ says you "can not use your D2D free ISBN at KDP".
- Print: D2D's FAQ says that if you already sell a print book through KDP Print with Expanded Distribution, or through IngramSpark, it does not recommend listing that book with D2D Print.
- AI policy: D2D says: "While we support AI-assisted content, we do not accept content that has been generated entirely by AI/LLMs that has not gone through extensive editing from a human."
Who it suits
- Good fit: authors who want to sell beyond Amazon from one dashboard.
- Poorer fit: if you plan to sell only on Amazon, you can publish there directly through KDP.
- Not a cover or editing service: D2D says it does not directly offer cover art creation or manuscript editing.
