Publisher Rocket alternatives: other ways to research KDP keywords and categories
Publisher Rocket is a desktop app for Amazon keyword and category research, sold for a one-time $199. People look elsewhere for three reasons: they want a lower price, they want research inside the browser while on Amazon, or they also need design tools. Below are two paid alternatives and a free starting point, grouped by the problem they solve.

Amazon's own guidance: free
Before buying a research tool, read KDP's own rules, which every tool's suggestions still have to meet. KDP lets you enter up to 7 keywords and pick up to 3 categories. Its metadata guidelines ban keywords that reference other authors, their books or sales rank. Our guide How to choose KDP categories and keywords walks through these rules step by step, with links to each KDP help page.
- Price: free.
- Limits: KDP's help pages explain the rules; they don't give search-volume or competition data.
- Choose it if: you have one or two books to set up and want to learn the rules before paying for data.
